Sex has been an important and essential part of the religious ritual that was common in the "pagan" cultures. In ancient temples recovered by archeologists in excavations, in Israel as well, sexual objects of ritual and erotic sculptures were discovered. One of the more famous of those was found in the village of Kogurau in central India. In this temple stone reliefs were preserved, describing ancient sexual orgy, with the participant of dozens of people and animals. In ancient human history, there were times in which the business of faith was conducted under the condition of a free, capitalistic and wild market.
In the era of "free trade" in objects of religion and ritual, an industry of temples developed, dealing with satisfying the physical and especially sexual needs of the clients. The pleasures of the ancient world included: food, drink, group sex and the use of psychoactive substances. Modern religions explicitly forbid any sexual activity in this world, but promised their followers a reward in the next world. The righteous arrive to heavenly heaven and there they enjoy the favors of lascivious teenage virgins.
In the book of Leviticus, chapters 18-20, the new Memes appear – the belief in chauvinistic monotheism. This is a hair-raising testimony for the ancient declaration of Memetic holly war (jihad) against the ritual sexuality. According to the testimony of the authors, the Egyptians, Canaanites and other peoples, populating the ancient Middle East, performed religious rituals that included diverse sexual activities. According to the moral perception of the authors of the bible, the ritual sexuality of the "pagans" was considered a deadly sin.
In the book of Leviticus, at the beginning of chapter 18, it says:
"After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do; and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do; neither shall ye walk in their statutes." Right after the opening, the new moral laws, important for the fast fertility, appear: "None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness…. The nakedness of thy father, and the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover….The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or the daughter of thy mother, whether born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover….The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter…she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy fathers brother… Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter-in-law: she is thy son' wife…Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter…. And thou shalt not take a woman to her sister….. Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind; it is abomination. And thou shalt not lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith; neither shall any woman stand before a beast, to lie down thereto; it is perversion. And thou shalt not lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith; neither shall any woman stand before a beast, to lie down thereto; it is perversion".
Chapter 18 ends with a severe moral warning:
"Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things; for in all these the nations are defiled, which I cast out from before you. And the land was defiled, therefore I did visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land vomited out her inhabitants. Ye therefore shall keep My statutes and Mine ordinances, and shall not do any of these abominations… for all these abominations have the men of the land done, that were before you, and the land is defiled".
Chapter 20 in the book of Leviticus specifies the prospective punishments for those who break the new rules:
"And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife… both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. And the man that lieth with his father's wife… both of them shall surely be put to death. And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind… they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. And if a man take with his wife also her mother… they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they… And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death; and ye shall slay the beast. And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto… thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast".
The biblical laws have turned into dominant Memes that increased human fertility. Such religious faith damages the health of the believers who follow it. The religious prohibition of wasting sperm in vain is a known example, and we shall examine it in the next chapter. |
