Moral laws were created in the past aiming to increase women's fertility. Therefore it is only symbolic that the name of our mythological mother Eve (Chava), starts with the Hebrew letter ח' (chet), representing the belief in the feminine original sin. The real sin is quite the opposite in this case it is the sin of the (chauvinist) human culture toward women. During the last thousands of years women have been raped systematically. They were forced by law to be the salves of their husbands, and if they rebelled and refused to live as slaves, they were murdered because they have violated the honor of their families. The majority of the girls born in the third world, the "developing countries" are forced into marriage in their teens. They are doomed to life of exploitation and hard work since the day they are married until the day they die. Just like John Lennon wrote in his shuddering song, more than twenty years ago. The traditional women slavery continues to this day, due to keeping the freedom of belief and worship. After all, our religious beliefs sanctify and dictate the cultural chauvinism.
The legal ban on the independence of women set Europe on fire in the fifteenth century. During the Renaissance there was a murderous crusade all over Europe aimed at independent wealthy women. During the two hundred years of "witch hunting" hundreds of thousands of women, convicted in witchcraft or adultery, were murdered in Europe. Those women broke the puritan laws of the New Testament and were brutally punished. The mass murder was managed strictly by skilled inquisitors appointed by the Catholic Church. The church also immediately confiscated all the possessions of the accused, for paying the trial costs. This way the women were in fact financing their own tortures, staged trial and finally their murder with their money. The poor women were tortured in the dungeons of the Inquisition until they admitted all their given sins. The "usual" confession included spreading epidemics as emissaries of Satan and participating in sexual orgies. The "witches" were burnt to death in multiple-participants religious ceremonies. In those days public pyre was a customary and suitable sentence, waiting for all those who deny the biblical moral and living in sin.
The familial designations "brother" and "sister" contain an inner warning from the sexual sin called "incest". Even Christian nuns were entitled "sisters". This title attached them with the nuclear family and they became protectors of that taboo. The sisters and brothers (delegates of the convents) were also integrated into the medical profession, and their clients became "patients". The diseases and epidemics that killed masses without a rational explanation (before bacteria were discovered) were considered for thousands of years as divine penalization striking the sinners. The reason this belief existed was a biblical worldview based on the principal of reward and punishment. For the masses who believed in god, the epidemics and catastrophes were a final proof for the severe blow of god to the sinners who lived in the areas affected.
The laws written in the bible made us chose the "right" way of life – two parent family. Maybe this is why the Hebrew word "יחיד" (single) includes the inner "chet". Same as its sister, the English parallel "single", a word that also contains the sin. The third part deals with man's sexuality and we shall examine the advantages (in the past) and drawbacks (at the present) of moral laws. |
