Hens have been faithfully accompanying us for thousands of years. We, the omelets consumers believe that they happily lay new eggs every night. Indeed, the poultry farmers are using the natural sex commandment of the hens and just collect their eggs each morning.
The truth is a bit different, the hens lay eggs for us, and pay the price of our omelet and this is a price of health. These hens lose their fertility after constantly laying eggs for two and a half years and their body becomes totally drained of resources.
About a quarter of the laying hens die of exhaustion in the laying cages and others are being destroyed after twenty six months. Hens lay about three hundred eggs every year in battery cages. In contrast with this, chickens living under regular conditions lay between ten to twenty eggs a year and they live and stay fertile for over ten years.
The human population is estimated to be about six and a half billion people and on its current growth trajectory, our population is doubled every sixty years.
Like in the previous case of the hens in the layers coop, the high human fertility rate today has a high health cost.
